Genital herpes statistics state this STD is on the rise, with no cure in site, unlike HPV which can be treated with cryotherapy and cryosurgery.
Since 1970’s, this STD has risen by about 30% most significantly in white teenagers (12-19 year olds at five times more risk) and in 20 years the incidence among 20-29 year olds has doubled. Nearly one million new HSV-2 infections are contracted (a majority under 25) costing over $237 million.

About 45 million people (12+ adolescents and adults) or 20% of the total population is infected by HSV with women’s risk as higher (25% female and 20% male infections). Male-to-female transmission appears more efficient than female-to-male. About 25% of adult population is infected and 80% of the infected are unaware. HSV is more commonly transmitted when no lesions are present.
